As robotaxi giants like Waymo and Zoox expand into new markets like Denver, San Diego, and Las Vegas, a hidden challenge has emerged: the safety of the human test drivers still supervising these systems. Recent reviews of injury reports indicate more than two dozen incidents involving whiplash, sprains, and chronic pain caused by the "hard braking" maneuvers typical of early-stage autonomous driving systems. These incidents underscore a critical gap in current ADAS and autonomous tuning.

The goal of an ADAS system is to prevent collisions, but the "jerky" nature of machine-led emergency responses can be physically taxing for occupants. To reach commercial maturity, these systems must move beyond binary "stop or go" logic to more sophisticated, human-like deceleration curves. This requires better predictive sensors that can identify potential hazards earlier, allowing the vehicle to begin a gradual slow-down rather than a violent stop. As robotaxis begin to serve the public at scale, the comfort and physical safety of the passenger must be engineered into the software as rigorously as the collision-avoidance logic itself.
