Global Shift: India’s Semicon 2.0 and the AI Fabrication Era
India’s $13.4B Semicon 2.0 initiative and new NVLink Fusion deals signal a massive geographic shift in the global semiconductor supply chain.
The semiconductor industry is currently navigating a period of intense geographic and technological diversification. India’s aggressive $13.4 billion "Semicon 2.0" program aims to establish the nation as a global hub for chip design and fabrication, providing a necessary counterbalance to the concentration of manufacturing in East Asia. This is coupled with new technological breakthroughs, such as the MediaTek and NVLink Fusion deal, which aims to integrate high-speed interconnects directly into a wider range of consumer and industrial hardware.
At the same time, the industry is grappling with the transition from optimization to "Intelligent Engineering." This methodology uses AI to transform fab operations, moving from educated guesses to data-driven choices in wafer production and yield management. As we see advancements in 300mm Silicon Photonics and InP expansion, the underlying hardware for AI is becoming more specialized. The next five years will be defined by whether these new manufacturing hubs can keep pace with the insatiable demand for the high-bandwidth memory and low-latency interconnects required for the next generation of local AI agents.
